From the forensic point of view, there are two major types of password protection: instant protection and strong protection. We consider the protection to be "instant" when the password can be extracted from the protected entity without running a brute force attack or enumerating the possible password combinations. If you have a recovery queue, breaking instant passwords is the first and necessary step of forensic analysis.
A password is called "strong" if it cannot be recovered instantly. In this case you have to attempt various attacks to recover it. The attack may be lengthy, and the result is never guaranteed. The Desktop Forensic Bundle has tools using all possible methods to speed up the recovery of strong passwords. Our tools support GPU acceleration with all modern graphic adapters. We have powerful and deeply customizable mask attacks and a highly sophisticated mutation engine. The discovered instant passwords can be saved as a custom dictionary that can be used to speed up subsequent attacks.
